The client, originally from Hunan and with a distinct Hunan accent, is involved in LED strip production. As a former developer, the client sought our assistance in developing an LED automatic testing device. They already had the hardware component, but it lacked full functionality and often encountered errors. Thus, they required our help in creating this product. The specific functionality of the device includes scanning the barcode on each LED strip, inputting the data into a computer, and then analyzing the LED's voltage, current, and quality data. If the parameters do not meet the standard, the device should raise an alarm; otherwise, the LED should proceed to the next step. Additionally, the device should be capable of detecting LED colors, aiming to significantly improve production line efficiency. The client also requested flexibility in selecting various hardware components, such as AC or DC power suppliers, accurate digital power meters, PCI interface function cards, sensor units, and sensor modules.
After the client verbally communicated the requirements, we requested them to provide a written document. For design and development projects, we usually prefer written documentation to avoid errors and misunderstandings caused by oral communication. Once we received the document, we established an independent project team comprising experienced software development and hardware engineers. The project commenced with software development, followed by the involvement of hardware engineers. Within 20 days, we successfully tested the client's product. Due to the small demand, the client paid the final payment after testing and transferred the files to proceed with their production.
After completion, the tested product can recognize and detect various colors of objects, including light-emitting and non-light-emitting ones (e.g., LED, various products, or the colors of objects being tested). For LED light-emitting objects, the device can achieve color recognition, polarity determination, brightness detection, current and voltage measurements, as well as sorting out nonconforming products. For other objects, the device can differentiate or detect relevant qualities based on the color of their surfaces. It offers both manual and automatic operation modes. In the manual mode, it can learn and recognize one type of light-emitting color, while in the automatic mode, it can learn and recognize two or more colors. The color information learned in either mode will be stored in the device's system even if the power is cut off, and it will remain until new color information is learned. The time required for a single color recognition is less than 100ms. It can be connected to various industrial control machines, such as PLCs, MCUs, etc.
